Raipur: A woman in Chhattisgarh’s Raipur has decided to donate her kidney to save her brother’s life. Omprakash Dhangar, 48, was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease in May last year. His kidneys had deteriorated to the point where he needed dialysis. One kidney was damaged by 80% and the other by 90%. After much research, his family decided to have him undergo a kidney transplant in a hospital in Gujarat’s Nadiad. When the doctors told the family that they needed a kidney donor, Omprakash’s elder sister Sheelabai Pal, a resident of Raipur’s Tikrapara, immediately volunteered. India appoints first woman charge d'affaires at Indian High Commission in Pakistan

Geetika Srivastava will become the first Indian woman diplomat to lead the Indian mission in Islamabad.  NEW DELHI: The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has appointed Geetika Srivastava, as the first woman charge d’affaires at the Indian High Commission in Islamabad. Women diplomats have been posted to Pakistan earlier, but not at the highest level. It is also considered a tough posting since Islamabad was declared a “non-family” posting for Indian diplomats some years ago. That usually limits women officers from taking up the assignment in Pakistan. For representational purposes THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Wearing traditional clothes, preparing sumptuous feasts and laying colourful floral carpets in the courtyards, Keralites celebrated Onam, the state’s harvest festival, on Tuesday with gaiety. On the occasion of “Thiru Onam”, the most auspicious day of the 10-day-long festival, people visited temples in large numbers, cutting across villages and towns in the morning.
